Training aim

This is an introduction to the use of Dynamic Simulation Modelling in the design process and the benefits and limitations of using BIM for early stage analysis to produce a more efficient workflow

Learning objectives

On completion of this course the attendee will appreciate the role of sustainability and project analysis in the design process, have an understanding of the types of analysis carried out through Dynamic Simulation Modelling and be aware of the variety of interoperable computer applications to simulate and predict environmental performance.

Course outline

The course looks at the types of analysis which can be carried out with Dynamic Simulation Modelling using including site optimisation, airflow modelling and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), daylight and glare evaluation and energy analysis which informs investment appraisal and Life Cycle Costing. It then looks at how analysis tools available within the BIM environment can facilitate quicker design decisions with a discussion of the benefits and limitations of both.
