The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland was established as Ireland's national energy authority under the Sustainable Energy Act 2002. SEAI's mission is to play a leading role in transforming Ireland into a society based on sustainable energy structures, technologies and practices. To fulfil this mission SEAI aims to provide well-timed and informed advice to Government, and deliver a range of programmes efficiently and effectively, while engaging and motivating a wide range of stakeholders.

Training aim

To enable local level analysis of energy demands in order to create an evidence base for developing policy to support increased sustainable energy use at a local level in Ireland.

Learning objectives

On completion of the Module, participants will be able to:
-              Analyse local residential sector energy using national census and BER database statistics
-              Analyse local commercial sector energy using valuation office and CIBSE statistics
-              Show this energy use spatially using Census ‘small area’ geographical breakdown
-              Understand energy use within a geographical boundary

-              Use the outputs to create evidence-based policies

Trainer's profile

Donna Gartland (MIEI) has been working at Codema – Dublin’s Energy Agency, since 2013 and currently holds the role of Strategic Sustainable Energy Planner.Donna also has experience lecturing, working as an Associate Lecturer at the Institute of Technology Tallaght. Donna holds a MSc in Sustainable Energy Planning and Management from Aalborg University, Denmark, a BEng in Energy and Environmental Engineering from Institute of Technology Tallaght.
