Training aim

The aim of this seminar is to help engineering consultants and end-users to understand possible harmonic problems, the standards involved and how to mitigate power quality issues.

Learning objectives

This course aims to show the effects harmonics can have on overheating of transformers, cables, motors, generators, and capacitors connected to the same power supply with the devices generating the harmonics. Electronic displays and lighting may flicker, circuit breakers can trip, computers may fail and metering can give false readings.

Course outline

  • Special attention will be given to the methods for reducing harmonics with VSDs
  • Where do Harmonics come from?
  • What are Harmonics? - Mitigation Techniques
  • Bearing Currents - case study and example specifications
  • Practical examples

Trainer's profile

This seminar will be presented by an ABB Industry Expert.

Course duration

1 Hour.

Assessment & certification

Those who attend this course will receive a certificate of attendance from ABB proving that they have undertaken the CPD training.

Who should attend

  • Electrical design engineers
  • Facility managers
  • Electrical project engineers
