This course aims to provide an overview of the key principles of Passive House Design.
On completion of this course the attendee will understand the principles of Passive House Design and the criteria for certification. Be aware of the importance of insulation, thermal bridging and air tightness in reducing energy consumption and gain an insight into importance of windows in eliminating the risk of condensation and mould and providing optimum thermal comfort. They will also understand the heat balance calculation procedures used in PHPP.
The course deals with how the key principles of Passive House Design are put into practice including optimised building envelope, insulation and thermal bridge free detailing, air tightness and how this is achieved, and mechanical heat recovery ventilation in relation to both energy reduction and occupant comfort. There is also an overview of the calculation procedures used in the Passive House Planning Package software which is used to certify the design.
