Hanley Energy is a global specialist in critical power and energy management solutions, with a stable of world-class engineers that work between its Irish Global Competence Centre in Stamullen, Co Meath, and manufacturing base in Kingscourt, Co Cavan. Combined, both purpose-built facilities have 65,000 sq ft of manufacturing space and have proven a fantastic operational hub for new product development and to reinforce business growth demands.
The Irish owned and managed company, was co-founded in 2009 by entrepreneurs Dennis Nordon and Clive Gilmore, with a vision to develop specialist power management solutions for the country’s burgeoning data centre sector.

Today Hanley Energy employs 290 people globally and has grown by providing clients with a one stop shop solution for a suite of energy and critical power products, software and service, from consultancy and advisory, to design, build and maintenance, as well as the complete lifecycle management process.
Essentially, enabling hyperscale data centres and large industrial manufacturing clients to effectively manage their energy strategy, ensure 100% up-time and optimise their operational competitiveness.
Leveraging the overseas presence of multinational clients based here has enabled Hanley Energy to establish operations in Germany, Sweden, Australia, South Africa and the United States, with further overseas expansion planned during 2021, and beyond.
Real-world experience
Hanley Energy’s expansion into major economies around the world is in part down to a combination of its ability to embrace and deliver rapid technological change, and its commitment to continuous skills development.
This commitment begins at home in Ireland, where the company helped bring about a change to the national training curriculum for electrical engineers in regional technical colleges.
“Our particular needs and requirements as an employer often outstrip what’s being taught in apprenticeships and engineering modules,” said Dennis Nordon, Hanley Energy managing director.
“Today, everything has software in it – even traditional electrical engineering skills also require a knowledge of software. We requested that the education authorities augment existing training courses with more advanced, applied science skills.”
The result is relevant, real-world training for young people in the area, allowing Hanley Energy, and employers like it, to more easily fill vacancies with local talent.
Resourcing global expansion
In order to facilitate their extensive growth plan and expansion of their BMS department, Hanley Energy will need to further strengthen the team in Ireland and have just released a number of new exciting engineering roles – Electrical, Mechanical, Automation, SCADA and IT disciplines.
