Following on from the launch of its new site in Baldonnell Business Park in Dublin in 2023, Kohler Uninterruptible Power (KUP) has announced plans for a series of customer events across Ireland and Northern Ireland in 2024.

The dates include two full day Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) Training Academies: the first on February 28 in Belfast, and the second in Cork on April 16. Both events are CIBSE CPD-approved, and each attendee will receive a free UPS Handbook worth £80.

These free UPS Training Academies in Belfast and Cork are prefect for graduate engineers and engineers who would like to improve their UPS knowledge.

The sessions are run in person by Alex Emms, KUP’s technical director who has more than 30 years’ experience in power protection engineering and are focused on basic and technical training on specifying UPS systems for mission-critical applications.

The course covers:

  • Fundamentals of UPS systems;
  • Choosing a UPS system; single, parallel & redundant systems;
  • Availability considerations such as MTBF & MTTR;
  • Battery systems, design life and sizing;
  • Neutral-Earth reference point for UPS systems;
  • Transformers and their use in circuits;
  • Fault clearance in UPS circuits.

Mahon Devereux, general manager of KUP (Ireland), said: “We are delighted to be offering UPS training academies across Ireland and Northern Ireland this year. The academies have been running for many years in the UK and always receive extremely positive feedback on the depth of training on how to specify a UPS system, as well as recognition from attendees that they are getting best in class knowledge and expertise as well as CPD points from attending.”

Feedback from previous academies has included comments such as, 'A well delivered seminar that increased my understanding of UPS in general" and “I found it very beneficial and will be taking a lot of info away to use in future.'
