As Ireland’s engineering and construction sector advances towards a low-carbon future, the importance of continuous professional development has never been greater.
For mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineers, architects, and specifiers, staying informed about emerging heating technologies and evolving building regulations is essential to delivering efficient, compliant, and sustainable systems.
Recognising this, Grant has positioned technical training and education at the centre of its industry support. Through its Engineers Ireland and RIAI approved continuous professional development (CPD) programme, Grant provides free-of-charge training both onsite at its purpose-built Training Academy in Birr, Co Offaly, and offsite in dedicated CPD training sessions with businesses across Ireland.
The CPD training provides professionals across the building services sector with the knowledge needed, ensuring engineers are equipped to meet new technical specifications confidently.
CPD courses designed for engineering professionals
Grant currently delivers three dedicated CPD courses tailored to design, specification, and system performance:
- An Introduction to Air to Water Heat Pumps, Condensing Oil & HVO-ready Boilers, and Wood Pellet Boilers.
- Condensing Oil, Wood Pellet, and Heat Pump Product Training.
- Heat Pump Technology & Appropriate Heat Emitter Sizing.
Each course is structured to help M&E engineers gain a comprehensive understanding of system design, sizing, and technology integration particularly around renewable and hybrid heating systems. The sessions also focus on meeting SR 50/ MCS and Part L compliance, whilst providing practical insight into system efficiencies, hydraulic balancing, and appropriate emitter specification.
Bridging design and application
Grant’s CPD programme bridges the gap between theoretical design and practical application. Engineers attending the courses gain hands-on insight into how different heating technologies – such as the Grant Aerona R290 air-to-water heat pump, Grant Vortex HVO-ready condensing boiler, and Grant Uflex underfloor heating can be specified together for a fully integrated system. This ensures correct system design from the outset and supports lifecycle efficiency across projects of different sizes.
Keith Scully, training manager at Grant.
Keith Scully, training manager at Grant, explained: “At Grant, we design and manufacture efficient, forward-thinking heating technologies — but just as importantly, we ensure that the people working with them have access to high-quality education. Our training programmes are continuously evolving to reflect new technologies and regulations, so that every installer, specifier, and engineer can work with confidence.”
CPD learning for a net zero future
As Ireland’s built environment continues to transition toward renewable heating, M&E engineers play a pivotal role in specifying systems that balance performance with sustainability.
Grant’s CPD programme supports this by fostering technical confidence and practical know-how with enabling engineers to apply best-practice system design in projects using air-to-water heat pumps, biofuel-compatible boilers, and integrated heating solutions.
Beyond technical instruction, these sessions foster collaboration between manufacturers and engineers, ensuring every project benefits from efficient, future-proof system design. By investing in professional training, Grant helps to strengthen Ireland’s engineering community, bridging innovation with hands-on expertise.
