Engineers Ireland is calling on members to declare their 2020 Continuing Professional Development Activities on My CPD prior to the January 31 deadline.

Engineers Ireland requires members to undertake and record a minimum of 35 hours of CPD activities each year with the exception of student members and retired members.

What counts as CPD?

Many forms of learning can count towards your professional development commitment. For example, whether you have attended a course with Engineers Ireland or our registered training providers, attended or presented at an event hosted by our sectors, watched a tutorial or event on Engineers TV, or read articles of interest in the Engineers Journal, not to mention CPD undertaken with your employer or other professional bodies – all these activities can be recorded as CPD.

2020 was also a year of unprecedented change for our members, their colleagues and families. Many of the new learning activities undertaken in 2020, such as learning about COVID-19 protocols and working remotely – such as managing teams, projects, using new software - also count as CPD activities and should be recorded as such.

Requesting an exemption

Members who were unable to meet the 35-hour CPD requirement in 2020 are encouraged to adhere to the policy by requesting an exemption.

A number of exemptions and pro-rata requirements apply to those on maternity, paternal or sabbatical leave; or members experiencing unemployment. You can request an exemption by logging into My CPD and selecting 'Request an exemption' under the declaration section.

Declare today

Members are encouraged to log in to their member dashboard on engineersireland.ie and complete their declaration on My CPD today. A simple, two-step declaration process is also available within the My CPD portal for members who work for CPD accredited employers.

On completion of your CPD Declaration, you will then be able to download your CPD Declaration Certificate for 2020.
