The Professional Skills CPD Certificate is now open for applications from engineering technical staff with apprentice and crafts skills.

Engineers Ireland has now opened applications for the Online Fast Track Series: CPD Certificate in Professional Skills, which is worth 5 ECTS Credits at Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and is accredited by TU Dublin. The online programme will commence on February 15 and run until June 14, with module components delivered once a month via Zoom.

Accelerating professional development

“Successful completion of the programme will assist participants in accelerating their professional development and their career prospects,” said Dee Kehoe, CPD director at Engineers Ireland.

The part-time programme, now in its seventh year, has been designed to allow high-potential, technical staff, with apprentice and craftsperson skills, to develop a range of non-technical skills which are vital for career advancement. Participants will gain insights from industry experts and professional tutors to equip them with the competences to meet the challenges of 21st century projects and processes.

Participants will also gain practical know-how regarding the standards and approaches which are required to optimise contribution in their workplace; to handle stress and conflicts; to foster strong and united teams; to demonstrate excellence in their approach to managing projects and commercial awareness and resource efficiency.

Five key areas

The programme covers five key areas in Professional Skills and these are explored in each module; Managing Yourself; Planning & Prioritising; Communicating Effectively; An Introduction to Project Management; and Commercial Awareness.

Successful completion of the programme will assist participants in accelerating their professional development and their career prospects.

The programme is delivered on a part-time basis comprising of five mandatory module components, approximately one weekday per month, for five months.

Each module component is supplemented by learning contract assignments which are designed to ensure the transfer of learning from each module component to the workplace in a manner that allows for a measurable and verifiable improvement in competence.

We have received testimonials from past participants including Páraic Devlin, E&I supervisor at Suir Engineering who said: “Each of the five modules within the Fast Track series have had an impact into how I carry out my daily tasks.

"The course highlights how small changes can have a positive influence, particularly in the mornings when time is in short supply. The course contains helpful insights which greatly improve my contribution to a project’s success and enable me to pass on these skills to others within the company.”

Scott Kitson, assistant construction manager at Mercury Engineering, said: “I really enjoyed the Fast Track Series programme. I have taken a great deal from each of the courses from learning how to build a presentation to managing my time more efficiently on a daily basis. I have brought this knowledge into the workplace and at a personal level with great benefits.”
