The transition from university or college life to the world of work requires substantial application and attention and, to help with this transition, Engineers Ireland’s CPD Certificate in Professional Engineering has been specifically designed in partnership with leading employers to enable recent graduates to gain the competences and professional standards expected in the workplace.

Six mandatory module components

The Level 9 CPD Certificate programme, accredited by TU Dublin, will commence online on Monday, October 5, and will be delivered on a part-time basis, comprising six mandatory module components on one weekday per month for six months.

Each module has been designed to provide a structured learning experience for graduates to hone their professionalism, adaptability and resilience in an engineering context. Modules include:

  • The Essential Skills of a Professional;
  • Communication and Presentation Skills;
  • Time Management & Organisational Skills;
  • An Introduction to Project Management;
  • Innovations in Excel;
  • Technical Report Writing.

Having recently completed the CPD Certificate in Professional Engineering, Murphy International engineer Daniel Wilson said: “The course was well structured with a nice balance between the tutor’s presentations and group activity.

"All tutors were engaging and promoted discussion among the group. The group presented a unique opportunity to work with people from different disciplines of engineering.

'Hugely beneficial in creating SMART objectives'

"The learning contracts have been hugely beneficial in creating SMART objectives for my future. The knowledge I have gained will help me during my graduate programme immensely.”

Highlighting the benefits of the online delivery of the CPD Certificate, Dee Kehoe, CPD director at Engineers Ireland, said: “The online delivery of this programme ensures graduates have the flexibility and accessibility to enrol, regardless of their location, and join live, interactive virtual training modules.

"Through Engineers Ireland’s online Learning Management System, graduates will also gain access to a plethora of supplementary learning materials to ensure they get the most from each classroom session.”

Graduates who wish to apply for the CPD certificate must be members of Engineers Ireland and hold a minimum qualification of an NFQ Level 8 honours degree in engineering (or equivalent).
