Engineering Climate Action: Solutions to combat climate change in Ireland is the theme of Engineers Ireland’s national conference, which is scheduled to take place online on Wednesday, October 21Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Climate Action, Communication Networks and Transport, will be among the speakers, it has been announced.

The conference was originally due to take place in Dublin last April, but with COVID-19 restrictions a decision was made to move the date to the autumn and to hold it as a completely virtual event.

Resilient infrastructure

Climate change is one of the greatest global challenges for this and future generations. Engineers have a key role to play in the transition to a sustainable, carbon-free society; Sustainable Development Goal 9 for example, calls for the building of resilient infrastructure, promotion of inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and fostering innovation.

As part of the national conference, each solutions-focused session including those on Innovation and Sustainable Practices and Climate Resilient Liveable Communities will aim to mobilise, educate and empower engineers across all sectors to be drivers of climate action in their own business, network and communities.

Join Ireland’s engineering community and leading experts for their insights at this key, solutions-focused learning event, including, Dr Hayaatun Sillem, CEO of the Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), Dr Morgan Bazilian, member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Advisory Council on Energy and speakers from Kingspan, ESB, Ervia, OPW, SFI MaREI Centre, and other contributors from overseas including from Portugal and the Netherlands.

The conference will be a fascinating and important forum to engage with member-engineers, business leaders, students, policy makers and others, to discuss climate action and the leadership role engineers have in addressing climate breakdown and in helping communities to transition to a more resilient society.

This event counts towards members’ Continuing Professional Development hours. (CPD). Click here for further information and to purchase your tickets today.
