US pharma giant Eli Lilly has greenlit a €200 million expansion at its Kinsale manufacturing site in Co Cork. It is reported that hundreds of new jobs will be created, in addition to the existing 500 in Kinsale. The announcement is a major boost to the Government, as it was feared that the political uncertainty following the election of President Trump in the United States would affect the expansion plans of US multinationals in Ireland. According to the Irish Independent, the company said in a brief statement that it was moving forward "with the next phase of capacity expansion at our Kinsale manufacturing site in Co Cork". It added: "This phase involves the construction of an additional production line at Kinsale and will increase the manufacturing capacity of the site's biologics campus."
