Engineers Ireland appoints Áine Myler as Director General

27 August 2026 - Engineers Ireland, the professional body for engineers and engineering in Ireland, has announced the appointment of Áine Myler as its next Director General. Áine will take up the role on 31 August.

With extensive leadership experience in professional and representative organisations, Áine joins Engineers Ireland following more than four years as Chief Executive of the Charities Institute, the representative body for Ireland’s fundraising charities. She previously served as Director General and Registrar of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland, where she worked closely with the Board and Council to strengthen professional standards, governance and member engagement.

Áine spent much of her earlier career as a Chartered Surveyor, working within the built environment alongside engineers, planners, and policymakers on infrastructure and development projects.

Áine succeeds outgoing Director General Damien Owens, who will retire in December following 16 years with Engineers Ireland. Damien joined the organisation as Registrar before becoming Director General in 2022.

Welcoming Áine Myler’s appointment, Dave Murphy, President of Engineers Ireland, said,

“Áine brings significant experience leading professional organisations operating in the public interest, together with a strong understanding of the built environment and infrastructure sectors. Her experience working with governing bodies, strengthening professional standards, and engaging with members will be a valuable asset to Engineers Ireland.

“Engineers play a vital role in shaping Ireland’s future, from delivering critical infrastructure and advancing innovation to tackling climate change and supporting sustainable growth. We are confident that Áine’s leadership will help further strengthen the voice of our members and the contribution of engineering to national policy and economic decision-making.

“I also wish to pay special tribute to Damien, as he enters his final months with Engineers Ireland, for the enormous service he has given, not only to our organisation, but to the entire engineering profession, leading it to even greater strength during his tenure.”
