Engineers Ireland is supporting the Irish Red Cross to assess the suitability of accommodation generously pledged by the public for families and individuals travelling from Ukraine to Ireland.

The Irish Red Cross has asked Engineers Ireland’s members who volunteer, to first assess the vacant properties that have been pledged across the country.

A call out has commenced to Engineers Ireland’s membership and in less than 24 hours, over 250 offers of voluntary help have been received by the professional body.

Professor Orla Feely, President of Engineers Ireland, stated: “As an association of engineers, we are deeply shocked by the Russian invasion and attack on Ukraine which has initiated a humanitarian crisis for the people of Ukraine. We are calling on our engineering community, including practising and retired engineers, and in particular those with experience in assessment of residential properties, to support the Irish Red Cross and to assess accommodation so kindly provided by the public. Since our initial call out to our engineering community, we have received over 250 offers of help from our members. We will be hosting a Guidance Webinar for our participating members on Tuesday 29 March from 1pm-2pm.”
