The 13th annual Engineers Ireland Young Engineers Ball was held on 1 November in the Clyde Court Hotel, Dublin 4. Organised by the Young Engineers Society (YES) of Engineers Ireland and sponsored this year by ESBI, the Young Engineers Ball is an annual gala dinner held for young engineers, both students and professionals, as an opportunity to meet, mingle and network with other members of the profession.

This year’s theme was ‘The Great Gatsby’, which resulted in some amazing period costumes with everybody fully embracing the theme of the ball. Just under 200 young engineers attended representing many well-known engineering companies in Ireland including ESBI, RPS, Clifton Scannel Emerson, ARUP and Roughan & O'Donovan. There were also representatives from university and institute of technology engineering societies from all over the country.
The entertainment at the ball fitted the 1920s theme. A great jazz band provided an authentic Gatsby-era jazz sound, which really set the tone of the evening, playing period songs during the three-course meal. Other entertainment on the night was provided via the amazing magician and comedian Andy James, who used his magic to astound in an after-dinner show with levitation and flame tricks.
The enjoyment continued late into the night with music by Kate Garry. A great night was had by all guests, with everybody enjoying themselves, networking and making connections that will help develop their professional careers.

The Young Engineers Society wishes to thank our sponsor, ESBI, without whom this event would not have been possible. We would also like to thank the Laughter Lounge for graciously providing raffle prizes, Andrew O’Toole and Jennifer Dowdall for acting as photographers on the night, Kate Garry our brilliant DJ, the band for keeping us entertained, Andy James for the laughs and amazement, the staff of Engineers Ireland for their help and expertise in running such a large-scale event and the members of the Young Engineers Society, especially Robert Dowdall, for all their hard work.
Finally, we would like to thank all the guests who attended this year’s ball. The event is run for them and from the feedback we have received, everyone had a night to remember. We look forward to seeing everybody at the Young Engineers Ball 2014.
