Course Overview
This course provides an entry-level understanding of the battery energy storage system (BESS) market in Ireland and the technical requirements of BESS projects. The key objective is to equip participants with sufficient knowledge to engage with the energy storage market, identify key areas of interest, and build a solid foundation across multiple areas to support further learning.
The training is designed to be relevant across the island of Ireland; however, where differences in regulation or approach arise, these will be highlighted. The technical aspects of the course are aimed at an audience with no prior knowledge of BESS.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand BESS technology in power systems and its relation to EV and pumped hydro industries
- Demystify energy storage terminology and key concepts for a non-technical audience
- Review an industrial-scale BESS facility and its key components
- Understand how energy storage supports the renewable energy transition
- Evaluate the commercial relevance of current and emerging technologies
- Identify opportunities as the Irish market increases renewable generation
- Understand the development and construction processes for BESS projects
- Recognise key challenges and future opportunities in the energy storage sector
