The Academic Society is a special interest group for engineers who lecture, conduct research in third-level institutions, or graduate students aspiring to academic careers. 
 
The Society promotes the advancement of academic standards in engineering and facilitates activities for key academic groups. It aims to develop and share a body of knowledge that supports engineers working in academia, while also serving professionals with an interest in academic topics.
 
Some of the events previously held by the Academic Society include:
- Webinars on 'Getting the most out of your Lifelong Learning' and 'Teaching to the Edges: Embedding the Principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Engineering.'
- A workshop on 'What’s Engineering Girls Out of Engineering?'
