Actavo scoops ‘Civil Construction Project of the Year’ gong at Irish Construction Industry Awards 2023

Actavo civils division has been awarded the inaugural ‘Civil Construction Project of the Year’ at the Irish Construction Industry Awards 2023.

The company was recognised for its project Rock Road Sustainable Transport Scheme, which was carried out on behalf of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

The Rock Road Sustainable Transport Scheme involved the upgrade of existing junctions at Booterstown Avenue and Trimleston Avenue, alongside the construction of a two-way cycle lane at Rock Road. The comprehensive project scope included drainage enhancements, landscaping, resurfacing, line marking, and the application of high-friction surfacing.

One of the project's key highlights was the collaboration with Killeshal Concrete to develop a groundbreaking Dutch Entry Kerb system – the first of its kind in Ireland – at the St Helens Junction.

Naturally absorbing stormwater run-off

This system ensures a continuous crossing facility, prioritising pedestrians over vehicles. Additionally, Actavo implemented landscaped rain gardens throughout the project area, contributing to water pollution reduction and flood prevention by naturally absorbing stormwater run-off and conserving water through self-irrigation.

Brian Kelly, Group CEO, Actavo, said: “Congratulations to our civils division and all our key partners on this project, for winning this fantastic award. The project showcases some excellent innovations and sustainable practices, reinforcing Actavo’s position as a leader in this sector. Well done to all the team.”

Niall Geraghty, resident engineer at Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said: “From the outset Actavo's expertise, commitment to excellence and professionalism stood out, making them an ideal choice for any construction project.

"One of the standout features of Actavo's involvement in the project was their dedication to minimising waste and adopting eco-conscious practices. Their ability to anticipate and address challenges saved valuable time and resources, ensuring the project remained on track.”

This award is a new category in the Irish Construction Industry Awards, which took place at the Mansion House on November 2, celebrating excellence and innovation in the construction industry.
