Presentations which range in focus from photovoltaic solar cell technology, to the use of elastomer components in the biotech industry and the development of the Dublin Galway Cycleway have been shortlisted for Engineers Ireland’s Best Presentation Award.

Co-sponsored by Beale & Co and Griffiths & Armour, the Best Presentation Award recognises members of Engineers Ireland who have contributed to the engineering profession by delivering outstanding technical presentations to member-engineers during the 2022 - 2023 lecture season.

The three projects shortlist for this year’s award are:

  • ‘Dublin Galway Cycleway – New Shannon Crossing: Athlone’, delivered by Mark Kilcullen, Project Director at Roughan & O’Donovan Consulting Engineers. Nominated by the Midland region.
  • ‘EU Wide PFTE Ban Overview’, delivered by Dr Darren McDonnell of SCRI-IS Technologies. Nominated by the MEETA Asset Management society.
  • ‘Overview of recent developments in photovoltaic solar cell technology: from manufacturing to energy harvesting’ delivered by Prof Stephen Goodnick from Arizona State University; Edward Duffy from Nines-PV; and Prof Dermot Brabazon from Dublin City University. Nominated by the Mechanical and Manufacturing division.

Congratulating this year’s shortlist, Damien Owens, Director General of Engineers Ireland, said: “Engineers Ireland’s sectors – our Regional branches, Engineering divisions and societies – play a pivotal role in our engineering community by facilitating knowledge sharing among our 25,000+ members in ways that are relevant, flexible and local.
