Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme has announced its annual exciting work experience opportunities for Transition Year students nationwide. In 2025, students will have the chance to explore the diverse and dynamic world of engineering through 17 third-level institutions and 15 industry partners, with over 700 placements available.

For the first time, ATU Donegal and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) will join the programme, expanding the reach and variety of the experience.

About the STEPS Engineering Your Future Programme

Launched in 2012 by Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme, supported by the Department of Education and leading industry partners including Arup, EPA, ESB, Intel, and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), the Engineering Your Future initiative has provided over 4,300 students with the opportunity to discover the breadth of opportunities within the engineering profession.

The immersive programme, which spans three to five days, includes interactive talks, hands-on group activities, site visits to local industries, and the opportunity to meet engineers at various career stages. This experience allows students to explore different engineering disciplines while understanding the vital role engineers play in society.

This initiative not only highlights the creativity and diversity of engineering but also the essential contribution engineers make to society”.

Mr Owens continued, “Since its inception with UCD in 2012, the programme has expanded to include 30 project hosts across Ireland. We encourage Transition Year students interested in shaping the future of society to apply for a place today.”
