Irish Concrete Society 35th annual awards open for entries

The Irish Concrete Society is now seeking entries to its 35th annual awards scheme. The awards scheme was established in 1979 to acknowledge construction achievements in which concrete contributes significantly to the built environment. Projects including completed buildings, structures or concrete elements of any type, scale or complexity, which demonstrate excellence in concrete may be entered. Previous overall winning projects include:
  • 34th overall award winner: dlr Lexicon Library;
  • 33rd overall award winner:Rosie Hackett Bridge;
  • 32nd overall award winner: The River Erne Bridge; and,
  • 31st overall award winner:Mizen Head Bridge.
The awards are subdivided into three categories:
  • Building;
  • Infrastructure; and,
  • Element (housing or small projects)
There will be one overall winner chosen with category winners in the other sections. The jury will consider awarding special recognition for the use of concrete in a sustainable context. Nominations should include a brief description of the contribution of concrete in this regard. Winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony in Croke Park on April 8, 2017.

Nominations for the Irish Concrete Society Awards

Nominations for the award may be made by clients, architects, consulting engineers, material suppliers, contractors or others directly involved with the project. Entries must refer to completed work, located in Ireland, which commenced after January 2013. Adjudication will be carried out by an independent jury convened by the Council of the Society. Award winners will be entered in the European Concrete Societies Network Award scheme where various Irish entries have been successful in recent years. Completed application forms must be returned to the Irish Concrete Society, Platin, Drogheda, Co Louth by Monday, November 1, 2016. Application forms may be downloaded from www.concrete.ie. The Irish Concrete Society is a not for profit, learned society founded in 1973 to support and encourage technical excellence in the design and construction of concrete in Ireland. It is a cross-sectorial, independent, impartial, science and engineering based organisation. It is open to all who have an interest in concrete, is funded through membership subscriptions, and through the services it provides including technical seminars. It is the primary organisation in Ireland concerned with the technical aspects of the design and construction in concrete. For more information, contact 041 9876466 or email secretary@concrete.ie.
