Trinity College Dublin (TCD) celebrated six student recipients of the 2024/25 Three Ireland Trinity College Dublin Connect to STEM Scholarships for Women at an evening ceremony.
The awardees and their programmes of study are:
- Lily Fitzgerald, Management Science and Information System Studies (MSISS);
- Sandy Li Bin Chen, MSISS;
- Charlotte Ledwidge, Environmental Science and Engineering;
- Alanna Hayes, Engineering;
- Holly MacEntee, Physical Sciences;
- Abigail O’Brien Murray, Theoretical Physics;
The six winners comprise the third set of recipients out of a total of 25 who will be awarded Three Ireland Trinity College Dublin Connect to STEM scholarships for women at Trinity over five years.
Scholarship winners Alanna Hayes; Sandy Li Bin Chen; Lily Fitzgerald; Keavy Gorman, director of people development, Three Ireland; Sylvia Draper, dean of the Faculty of STEM, TCD; Abigail O'Brien Murray; Holly MacEntee; and Charlotte Ledwidge.
Applications were invited from first year students on selected courses in 2024/25 and recipients were chosen on the basis of a written application.
Administered by the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Trinity Access and worth €20,000 each over a four-year undergraduate degree programme, the scholarship scheme aims to attract women in Ireland to study STEM subjects at Trinity.
Professor Sylvia Draper, dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Trinity, said: “I offer my warm congratulations to Lily, Sandy Li, Charlotte, Alanna, Holly and Abigail on applying for and becoming our 2024/5 Three Ireland Connect to STEM scholars. I extend my sincere thanks to Three Ireland for making this possible and for their generous support.
Greater diversity and inclusion
“By working in partnership with Three Ireland on this programme we are demonstrating our commitment to creating greater diversity and inclusion in the student body studying STEM undergraduate degree programmes. The scholars will benefit from a range of career opportunities in science and in technology industries in which they will make an important societal impact.”

"There are far too few women in STEM and as a large employer in the sector, we know how important it is that our workforce comes from a range of backgrounds in order to drive greater innovation and diversity in the workplace.
"There are wider systemic issues at play, however we recognise the importance of our role in ensuring the talent pool is as diverse as possible through efforts such as this scholarship programme.
“This is the third year of our Connect to STEM scholarship, and we were once again blown away by the applicants. We wish each of them nothing but the best in their studies, and it is such a pleasure to be part of their journey.”
The successful students will receive mentoring and other supports from Three Ireland as part of their awards.
