"I was delighted on behalf of the Engineers Ireland Thomond Region to volunteer to attend the Mid-West Careers Fair at the University of Limerick (UL) on 26 September. When I arrived at the fair in UL, it was full of young, happy students from a host of secondary schools from the mid-west region. The fair itself was operated in a very businesslike manner, with many stands representing institutes of education, universities, colleges and engineering forums. "I was delighted to talk to so many young academic and socially delightful students. I was very impressed with students and the many girls who reported their keen interest in engineering-related disciplines including aeronautical, mechanical, electrical and biomedical engineering along with civil, structural and environmental engineering. "I felt very welcome and appreciated at the fair by all the students that I chatted with, and I hope I will work with some of them at some stage in the no-so-distant future.
