A new strategic collaboration between Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork and the University of Limerick (UL) has been developed through the appointment of Dr Kafil M Razeeb as Adjunct Professor in UL’s Department of Physics.

The appointment recognises Dr Razeeb’s significant contributions to research and development in the energy sector, while also formalising a growing partnership between the two institutions. This collaboration will bring together complementary expertise across UL and Tyndall to address critical global challenges in energy generation, storage and management, with the ambition to deliver meaningful societal and economic impact both nationally and internationally.

At the heart of the partnership is a joint research programme in energy harvesting and storage, led by Dr Razeeb. The collaboration will leverage the strengths of both institutions to advance next-generation thermoelectric generator technologies and innovative hybrid systems capable of converting waste heat into usable electricity.

Dr Razeeb said: “By combining Tyndall’s research leadership in semiconductors and energy systems with UL’s academic excellence in fundamental materials research, this partnership aims to unlock new approaches to capturing untapped energy from industrial processes and everyday systems. This work has the potential to significantly enhance energy efficiency and sustainability across multiple sectors.”

The UL-Tyndall collaboration is expected to deliver high-impact, transformative outcomes, further positioning Ireland as a leader in the development of sustainable energy systems.
