Approximately 100 new jobs have been announced in Limerick by a division of medtech giant Johnson & Johnson. Information Technology Shared Services, a division of Johnson & Johnson Services, plans to create the new jobs through the creation of a development centre at the National Technology Park, Plassey, Limerick. Recruitment for these highly skilled, information technology positions will start immediately, and the positions are expected to be filled over the next two years. This investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, through IDA Ireland. Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said that the 100 jobs, which will add to the 2000 people that the company already employs across Ireland, was “a great boost” and that multinational investment plays a key part in the Government’s jobs plan. The Johnson & Johnson family of companies has had a significant presence in Ireland since 1935 and employs over 2,000 people in Dublin, Cork and Limerick. Jansssen Pharmaceuticals Ireland Ltd, DePuy Synthes Cork and Vistakon Ireland are three organisations currently accredited to the Engineers Ireland CPD Accredited Employer Standard and are also part of the overall Johnson & Johnson family of companies. “The close collaboration between Johnson & Johnson, Limerick Institute of Technology and the University of Limerick to enhance the city as an IT hub by providing skilled talent has been central to winning this investment for the Mid-West,” added Minister of Education and Skills Jan O’Sullivan, who is also the TD for Limerick City.
