Engineering student Mark McCrea has been awarded the Peter Rice Medal for 2012. Four other Dundalk Institute of Technology students received 'best in their field' certificates for their Level 7 Projects. The Peter Rice award is made annually to the best presented Level 7 Engineering student project in Dundalk Institute of Technology. The award is open to students in each of the five Level 7 Engineering disciplines in Dundalk Institute of Technology, namely Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Systems and Building Services Engineering. Four candidates from each discipline were selected to take part in the competition and were assessed on the basis of their final-year project results. A judging panel selected the top project in each discipline and the final competition took place in Dundalk Institute of Technology on 19 December. Each of the five finalists presented their Level 7 projects to an audience of DkIT students, staff and members of the public and the judging panel selected Mark McCrea from Electrical and Electronic Systems as the overall winner for his project on reference voltage generators. The Peter Rice award was established in 1995 at Dundalk Institute of Technology by Engineers Ireland North East Region, with the patronage of Arup group. At the awards ceremony, Engineers North East Region also unveiled the new Peter Rice Medal Recipients Board, placed in Dundalk Institute of Technology’s School of Engineering.
