It’s at this time of year, as children go back to school and colleges re-open their doors to students, that we often start to think about what we should be learning to enable us to enhance our performance. The Engineers Ireland CPD Training team has been busy over the summer months working with subject-matter experts to develop new CPD courses and seminars in topics ranging from IT security, process engineering, LARES and timber conservation to unconscious bias and invasive alien plant-species.

  • INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND SOFTWARE SECURITY
(ISC)2 certifications are recognised as the gold standard in the industry and confirm comprehensive and professional knowledge critical to developing and protecting systems and data in business and working environments. (ISC)² Official Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) CBK Training The CISSP draws from a comprehensive, up to date, global common body of knowledge that ensures security leaders have a deep knowledge and understanding of new threats, technologies, regulations, standards and practices. (ISC)² Official Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) CBK Training The Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) course is designed for professionals who demonstrate a globally recognised level of competence, as defined in a common body of knowledge, by assuring security throughout the software lifecycle.
  • PROCESS ENGINEERING
A Practical Introduction to Commissioning & Qualification This course, developed in conjunction with NIBRT, provides an insight into the commissioning of biopharma equipment and utilities used in biopharma plants and how they are installed, commissioned and tested. The A-Z of Valves & Actuators for Process Control Systems This one-day course will provide an insight to valve and actuator technology to chemical, instrumentation, maintenance, and mechanical engineers and technicians involved in the selection, sizing, specification, installation, operation and maintenance of shutoff, pressure relief, actuators, control valves and control-valve accessories.
  • FREE LOCAL AUTHORITY RENEWABLE ENERGY STRATEGIES (LARES) SERIES
The series of free LARES courses, held in conjunction with the SEAI, are designed to help all those engaged in local authority renewable-energy strategies. Planning and Implementing Community Engagement for Renewable Energy Strategies This module is intended to help participants understand the principles of consultation and participation and be better equipped to implement them. Energy Mapping for Spatial Energy Demand Analysis This course has been designed to enable local level analysis of energy demands in order to create an evidence base for developing policy to support increased sustainable energy use at a local level in Ireland. Achieving Low Carbon Development through the Planning Process The aim of this module is to introduce local authority teams with responsibility in planning, infrastructure development, sustainable energy and environment issues to the legislative regime that define Ireland’s obligations to meeting a low-carbon future.
  • TIMBER CONSERVATION
CPD Seminar: Essentials of Timber Conservation, Latest Developments, Techniques and Legislation With the Government once again emphasising re-use and rejuvenation of the older town centres in particular, the role of timber and the assessment of its capacities in-situ will feature more and more in the engineer’s workload.
  • CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS AND EXPERT WITNESS
Construction Contracts Act - An Engineer's Perspective The aim of this half-day CPD seminar is to provide practical guidance to Engineers on how the Construction Contracts Act 2013 will affect the day-to-day contract management of all construction contracts entered into after 25 July 2016 – specifically in relation to terms of payment, management of claims/disputes for payment and adjudication. Expert Witness Training for Professional Engineers: New Developments in High Court Procedures With changes in the law and the High Court Procedures coming into effect from 1st October 2016, the admitting and giving expert evidence is going to be impacted dramatically. This course gives a detailed overview of how the role of an expert witness will change and what you can expect when you are asked to provide evidence.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT
CPD Seminar: Applied Project Management - Delivering 21st Century Projects The seminar will focus on three themes: 1) Working with virtual, globally dispersed teams; 2) Delivering inward investment projects; and 3) Decarbonising the economy, themes present in many of today’s projects, and look at the common challenges and innovative solutions that project management professionals have encountered when delivering 21st-century projects.
  • UNCONSCIOUS BIAS
Understanding Unconscious Bias Unconscious bias refers to a bias that we are unaware of and which happens automatically when our brains make quick assessments of situations and people based on our own experiences and backgrounds. Unconscious bias can result in some errors of judgement, which can lead to mistakes in decision making and the way in which we treat other people
  • ENVIRONMENT
Introduction to Environmental Law It is impossible to deliver projects without careful attention to the legal framework protecting the environment. That framework is always changing. This programme will introduce delegates to the fundamentals enabling them to stay on top of the important developments. Identification and Management of Invasive Alien Plant Species The course aims to provide engineers with an ability to recognise the main invasive alien plants in the field and to be aware of the most efficient and environmentally sensitive control options.
