Course Overview

The new Pressure Systems Regulations came into force in Ireland on 1st January 2013. These have been written into statute law as an amendment to the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Regulations in the form of a new Part 10 and Schedule 12. The new regulations set out requirements for the design, construction, safe operation, examination and testing of pressure equipment or pressure systems which are used or intended to be used at work. The PSR apply to all workplaces and in all industry sectors which use pressure systems as part of their operations. Compliance with the Regulations is mandatory.

Pressure equipment and systems coming under the scope of the PSR include:

  • pressure vessels;
  • steam boilers and steam heating systems;
  • pressurised process plant and piping;
  • compressed air systems;
  • refrigeration systems;
  • pressure cookers, autoclaves and retorts;
  • heat exchangers;
  • piping, accessories and protective devices.

The responsibility for compliance with the PSR falls mainly to the owners and users of pressure systems, but also to designers and installers as well as those carrying out maintenance and repair of pressure systems. The course aims to assist those who have responsibilities for pressure systems to understand how the new Regulations affect them and what their duties are.
