Course Delivery Options
Course Overview
As Ireland transitions to a carbon-neutral energy economy, the electricity system will need to connect large numbers of low-carbon generation and storage. This will range from onsite generation at demand customer's site to large-scale onshore and offshore renewable generators. This course has been designed to target this opportunity and provide engineers with the skills and knowledge to operate in this area.
Training Aim
To provide an overview of:
- The Irish Electricity System
- Government energy policy and Climate Action Plan
- Planned development of transmission network, generation and demand
- The connection offer process for generator
- Future policy developments, including hybrid connections and private wires
- Operation of renewable generation, including constraint and curtailment
Learning Objectives
To understand:
- Operation of the power transmission and distribution systems
- Types of generation
- Demand growth and flexibility
- Development of the transmission system
- Types and categories of connections
- Connection Offer Process - ECP
- Development of connection policies, including hybrid connections & private wire policy
- Operational costs and loss factors
- Constraints & curtailment of renewables
