Course Overview

The course has been developed to support organisations and individuals with responsibility for conducting water hygiene risk assessments.
It is a legal requirement to have a legionella risk assessment of all cold and hot water systems.  The risk assessments is usually carried out as a part of legionella risk management programme which help manage the risk of Legionnaires' disease.  This risk assessment training has been developed in accordance with the guidelines and recommended practices issued by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre and the UK Health & Safety Executive L8.  A risk assessment will have a significant impact on reducing liability should any problems occur.
The risk from Legionella in water systems is greatly reduced if regular monitoring is carried out as part of a risk management programme. This training will teach methods to ensure that the health risks are fully managed and that that the level of any contaminants remain below the legally acceptable levels.
The audit is crucial to the development or refinement of any good risk management programme.  The audit process draws on the management requirements of the National Guidelines for the Control of Legionellosis in Ireland, 2009 and the UK HSE ACOP L8 and mirrors the practice of the ISO 9001 standard.  Audit is typically used as an initial preparatory stage and on an annual basis to confirm compliance and improvement.
