ATU: ‘Meet the Employer Event’ for new Level 8 Civil Engineering Apprenticeship

Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has unveiled a new Level 8 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering by Apprenticeship, offering an innovative, industry-focused pathway for learners pursuing a career in civil engineering.

To mark the introduction of this programme, ATU will host a ‘Meet the Employers’ event on Thursday, June 25, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at ATU’s Sligo campus. The event provides a unique opportunity for prospective apprentices to engage directly with leading civil engineering companies actively recruiting Level 8 apprentices for this September intake

Attendees will have the chance to network with employers, explore career opportunities, and gain valuable insights into the recruitment process. The event will also feature a short presentation outlining the structure of the apprenticeship, how the work-based learning model operates, and the key benefits for both apprentices and employers.

Developed in close collaboration with industry partners, the new apprenticeship programme has been designed to address the growing demand for skilled civil engineers while offering a flexible, practical route to achieving an honours degree. The programme combines academic study with paid, on-the-job training, equipping learners with both theoretical knowledge and real-world experience.

Emma Britton, director of the Civil Engineering Apprenticeship at ATU, said: “The new Level 8 Civil Engineering Apprenticeship reflects a strong partnership between ATU and industry, ensuring that what students learn is directly aligned with the skills employers need. The ‘Meet the Employers’ event is a fantastic opportunity for prospective apprentices to connect with companies, explore real career pathways, and take the first step towards earning an honours degree while gaining valuable experience.”
