Dublin City University, 4 March - 6 March

3 day programme
The programme will start with an introduction to engineering in general and the engineering courses and facilities available at Dublin City University. The students will then take part in a disintegration project - where they will learn how a product is designed by taking it apart an examining how it is put together. Students will also work on DCU's "Green Power" race car. The students will work on assembling and disassembling portions of the race car and identifying and measuring key components. On the second day students will use the SolidWorks computer aided design system to design an engineering component and will then manufacture this component using a 3D printer. Students will learn about pneumatics and control in DCU's state of the art pneumatics laboratory and will build circuits using industrial components. On the final day students will go on a field trip to our industrial partners site to see how a large multinational engineering company functions and to get an insight into the day-to-day life of an engineer working in industry. The programme will conclude with a tour of DCU campus and a Q&A session.
Fees for this 3-day experience will be €25. Students attending a DEIS school will not be charged a fee.

The UL EYF programme will introduce students to Engineering programmes in the School of Engineering and Department of Electronics & Computer Engineering. The programme will include a visit to the Explore Engineering Showcase in Shannon Airport on afternoon/evening 7 March.

The STEPS TY Engineering Your Future experience at Viatris Northern Cross will include a Laboratory tour, Device demonstration, CAD demonstration, a mini project activity and interactive workshops. Quizzes, games, prizes and snacks over the three days. After the success of our programme in 2023 we are excited to receive applications for our 2024 programme.

Viatris - Dublin Respiratory are looking forward to hosting a Steps EYF experience in March 2024 where Transition year students will get to work with our Engineers from all different departments around our busy site. The Viatris Galway STEM experience will include: an intro into Viatris Galway and our presence in Connemara, site tours/demonstrations from R&D, labs, production/Employee Speakers- "Pathway to career in Science", Rediscovery Centre workshop on Sustainable Engineering along with some fun quizzes and prizes !

An action packed 3 days where students will learn about the history of Viatris Little Island, what we do, how our medicines help people worldwide and why they should consider a career in Pharma in the future. Subject Matter Experts in every department will organise fun activities and challenges in the labs, operations area, engineering and automation and health & safety. There will be a fact filled site tour as well as a project provided and hosted by a member of the Rediscovery Workshop and a visit from the Engineers Ireland Chair.
This experience is only open to students from Nagle Community College in Mahon Cork City. There will be no fees for this experience.

This three-day experience will give Transition Year students the opportunity to learn more about apprentices with Liebherr and an insight into the opportunities afforded by a career in engineering. The event will feature hands-on workshops and live demonstrations. All activities will have a strong hands-on, practical engagement emphasis where possible.

DBFL will be offering a 3-day programme with a range of hands-on activities bringing students through real-life projects, giving them a real feel for the day-to-day role of a civil, structural or transportation engineer. Students will have access to a team of engineers to answer their questions and challenge them over the three days. This 3-day STEPS EYF event will feature hands-on workshops and interactive talks about engineering. Engineers are tinkerers and creative problem solvers. Today’s engineers work on a wide range of problems which includes designing bridges, coding self driving cars, designing implants, and combating climate change. The workshops and talks will give insight into how engineers use creativity, math and science to find exciting solutions to the worlds most challenging problems. Sessions will focus on mechanical, civil, electrical, biomedical, and energy systems engineering.

TUS Midlands, Athlone Campus have a fantastic three day schedule planned for Transition Year students in April. The students will get an introduction in the variety of engineering disciplines studied at TUS Midlands including: Mechanical and Polymer, Digital engineering, Electronic, Computer & Software, Structural and Civil engineering. There will be a tour of the campus, Rediscovery Centre Workshop on Sustainable Engineering Design, and many hands on activities and lab work.

The 2024 Fingleton White Transition Year Programme, held in Portlaoise aims to give students a broad overview of the world of engineering and demonstrate the endless opportunities a degree in engineering provides: Some of the highlights of the programme are: Presentations and workshops on topics such as wind and solar energy, natural gas, water and engineering design. Run through of exciting real world projects with Fingleton White's engineers. Hands on experiments demonstrating the principles of engineering, Q&A Sessions with engineers from a range of disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil and chemical, Information on the pathway to Engineering and an overview of college courses from recent college graduates.

Combilift are hosting a programme for Transition Year Students to experience the “Life of an Engineer” in a fast-paced working environment. This event will give student’s an insight into work as future Engineers/Technicians.
Students will develop an understanding of various Manufacturing and Engineering Processes and learn about the wide range of opportunities Combilift has to offer. During the event, students will receive a tour of Combilift’s state of the art Manufacturing site, participate in hands-on workshops, live demonstrations and conclude their visit with a Combilift Quiz. Students will also get the opportunity to listen to “A Day in the Life” of some of our current Apprentices, Trainees and Engineers. These talks will entail why they chose a career in Engineering and what they enjoy most about working in Combilift.

Participants in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Transition Year week will get a glimpse inside the EPA’s Wexford headquarters, meet scientists and engineers who monitor our environment, learn about climate change and climate action, and experience how the EPA monitors pollution, rivers, and even radiation. With hands on-demonstrations at the micro level and talks from experts working at the global level, students will understand how science and engineering play a key part in preserving and improving our environment.

Students will receive an initial induction and icebreakers session for a half day. Over the following three days, the programme will provide the student with an exposure to mechanical, civil and electronics engineering activities in a group environment. Activities will include 3D printing, mechanical build and programming of a robot arm kit and a bridge building / surveying exercise. The importance of teamwork, design and sustainability to each discipline will also feature. The programme will finish with a feedback session and reflection on the week's achievements.
