CPD Credit: 6.5 hours, C1
This one-day course provides an overview of the fundamentals of the hydraulic analyses undertaken during flood risk management studies in Ireland. The course compliments the one-day ‘Hydrology in Flood Risk Management’ course (scheduled to be held on the previous day), although it is not a pre-requisite to have attended the Hydrology course in order to attend the Hydraulics course.
The course aims to provide an understanding of the hydraulic mechanisms and analysis methods used in hydraulic modelling and flood mapping for flood risk management. It also covers the principles of culvert design, drainage design and SUDS and provides an overview of flood risk assessment in Ireland.
- Open Channel Flow
- Hydraulic Controls
- Flow in Pipes
- Culvert Design
- Hydraulic Modelling and Flood Mapping
- Drainage Design and SUDS
- Flood Risk Assessment in Ireland
Who Should Attend?
This course is intended for anyone who requires an introduction to, or develop their basic knowledge of, hydraulics in flood risk management.
Stephen is a Senior Associate with RPS, with over 15 years’ experience in flood risk management, with particular expertise in hydraulic modelling. He has been responsible for the successful delivery of a wide range of projects, from local to national scale for both the public and private sector across the U.K. and Ireland. These projects include various flood risk management and feasibility studies and the detailed design of flood alleviation schemes. Stephen is a Chartered Engineer, a member of the ICE Register of NEC3 ECC Project Managers and a Fellow of Engineers Ireland.
- Diana Abrunhosa, Arup: “It's a great course to understand the technical background of modelling”
- Daniel Nolan, Hydrocare Environmental Ltd.: “Good instruction”
- “Good course well presented”
- “The course is interesting and touches on a range of subjects”
- “Very good quality. Both presentation and presenters made it very easy to follow and understand.”
