How do I make a complaint?

If you wish to make a complaint about a member of Engineers Ireland, please download, complete and submit the complaint form found in our Making a Complaint section.

What disciplinary actions can be taken?

If the panel of investigation of the Ethics and Disciplinary Board finds that a member showed professional misconduct, it may impose the following sanctions:

  • Issue a letter informing the member concerned of the contravention(s) and requiring them to provide an undertaking in writing to the Council to desist from and/or not repeat the conduct which constituted the professional misconduct

or

  • Issue a letter informing the member concerned of the contravention(s) and reprimanding them and requiring them to provide an undertaking in writing to the Council to desist from and/or not repeat the conduct which constituted the professional misconduct.
  • Recommend to the Council that the member concerned be suspended from membership of Engineers Ireland for a specified period
  • Recommend to Council that the member concerned be excluded from Membership of Engineers Ireland

Engineers Ireland cannot impose any other form of sanction and cannot instruct the engineer to make good defects in workmanship or provide financial compensation.

Can you take disciplinary action against a non-member?

The engineer in question must be member of Engineers Ireland at the time of the subject of the complaint.
