Fire and Safety in the Engineers Journal

Engineers should always ask 'Why'!

We have a chance to build back the world and build it back better, but we have to protect our resources such as our oceans when we do so. We need engineers to play their part in this new world, but we have to ensure that they always ask the 'Why', writes Patrick Calnan.

Wedded to our tools: Why expertise can hold us back – Part II

The Summerland fire on the Isle of Man in August 1973 shares many similarities to the Grenfell fire. Benjamin Khoo and Janet Skitt draw parallels between some of the key issues underpinning the systematic failure in the construction industry, and review how it could learn from the process industry when it comes to improving safety management and procedures.
